In December Suzy was announced as a 2025 HOF inductee into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Only the second travel ball coach to be inducted in it's storied history and the first female travel ball coach to receive this prestigious honor. She will be joining the likes of Mike Candrea, Sue Enquist, Cindy Bristow, Patty Gasso, Rhonda Revelle, Tim Walton and more.
While growing up in Waterloo, Iowa, Suzy was the first female to play in the boys baseball program. She was a 4-sport athlete in high school and was an all-state player in softball, volleyball and basketball. Subsequently, Suzy played softball at the University of Iowa, where she earned a B.S. in Physical Education. She is the founder of the VA Glory travel organization and she is head coach of VA Glory National Willemssen 18u team. In 2022 Triple Crown Sports honored her with the inaugural Joan Joyce award for pioneering leadership, dedication and long standing service to the softball community. She and her coaching staff were selected as the 2023 NFCA Region 3 Coaching Staff of the Year.
Suzy has coached HS softball for over 20 years with the last 6 years being at Bishop O'Connell. She has been named the VISAA Div1 State Coach of the Year in 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021 and 2019 and the team has won the VISAA Div 1 State Championship in 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021 and 2019. Prior to O'Connell she coached at Lewis HS where she was named the 2017 Conference Coach of the Year, an honor she also received in 2015. In 2013 and 2017 Suzy was honored to be a Fairfax County Female Coach of the Year nominee.
Suzy was named the Pigskin Club of Washington , D.C's 2024 Coach Of the Year, the 2024 WCAC Co-Coach of the Year, the 2024 Washington Post All-Met Coach of the Year and was inducted into the VA USSSA Hall of Fame in March of 2024.
Suzy was recently elected to serve as the travel ball representative for the Board of Directors for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The NFCA is the country's professional growth organization for fastpitch softball coaches from all competitive levels of play. In addition she is a 4 star Master coach for the NFCA and she has over 40 years of experience either as a player, coach, or teaching professional. Suzy is a nationally known clinician for numerous youth, high school, and college softball camps and events. In addition she leads seminars and workshops in character development through sports.
